Making Positive Changes

You need to be able to change how you think if you want to make positive changes in your life.

If you want positive changes to happen in your life, then they can only be made by you. As you deliberately work on yourself every day and you start to grow, that is when you will start to see the positive changes you want to make happen.

1. Your Vision

If you want to strive towards your vision and be successful in creating the life that you want, then you cannot make any negative changes.

You already know that the changes you want to see must be positive, so they must be your focus as you work on yourself. Remember you cannot improve yourself without making any changes.

The most successful people you see around you or throughout the world are successful because they developed themselves into the most valuable people they could be. When you start to develop yourself into the most valuable person you can be, you will start to see the success you desire.

To become more valuable, you must work on changing yourself first. When working on yourself don’t be thinking about your success, think about your value. You won’t see success by making the odd change, you will only see success when you change the right things for the right reasons, and the right focus.

To start focussing on the right things and making a positive change, it starts with what you think. As you start to think positively about the changes you want to make, you will eventually need to put those thoughts into action.

2. Your Courage

It will take courage for you to take action on your positive thoughts and implement positive change. The more courage you have the more action you will take, and the more positive change you can implement.

There are so many changes that are possible to make in our lives, and these changes could lead to so many things.

For example, in 2011 I was based in Liverpool as a project manager, but I wanted to be an engineering production manager because it was a better opportunity to work with the team and work on my own leadership skills.

But there was no opportunity at that time, but there was an opportunity in Scotland. So, I moved to Edinburgh and took up an engineering production manager role at the Scottish Train Operating Company.

Any changes you make could lead you to a different place to live, a different career path, or even a different boyfriend/girlfriend.

If there are things happening in your life right now that you are not happy about, then you need to change them to things that will make you happier. To change what you have, you need to change what you do.

3. Embrace Failure

When you build the courage to make these changes you will be able to take the necessary risks to implement change, embrace failure and create the future you want for yourself.

When I say embrace failure, what I mean is learn from mistakes you make because as you implement change, you will make many mistakes along the way. But you must use those mistakes as opportunities to learn and keep moving forward towards your vision.

Don’t do what a lot of people throughout the world do and use your mistakes as an excuse to give up. If you give up, then that is when you will ultimately fail.

All throughout your life you have been trying things out, making mistakes, learning from those mistakes and then trying again until you reached your goal, we all have.

For example, when we were babies and we wanted to start walking, we tried and fell, got back up and we tried again and fell, got back up we tried again and fell. We did this until we eventually started walking.

That was our first go at trial and error. We try, fail, learn. We try, fail, learn. We try, fail, learn. We try, succeed. That is exactly what happened when we learned to walk when we were babies. So, you already have this mindset instilled in you.

However, when you were a baby and you fell over when learning to walk, there was someone there to help you and pick you back up. Now that you’re an adult, things are tougher when you try something and fail.

As you learned to walk, it took courage to keep trying and not give up on yourself. So, you need to have more courage now to keep going, and not give up on yourself when you are trying to make new positive changes.

4. Don’t Give Up

When you work on yourself and work on trying to implement new positive changes, it is very likely that you will receive lots of negative questions from the people around you. They will be asking you why you are doing what you’re doing.

When you were a baby and trying to learn to walk, all you received was encouragement from the adults around you. It’s funny as you grow older, that encouragement seems to reduce more and more from the people around you.

As you start to implement your new positive changes, you need to make sure that your time is invested wisely, and who you invest your time with. Do your best to decrease the number of people you interact with who give you negative feedback or ask you questions that will put doubt in your mind.

You have probably been around people like this already, so you may already know who they are. It’s what most adults do when they see a friend, or somebody they know trying something new, they react negatively, even though they think they’re helping.

When you seek advice from people, only go to somebody who has been where you want to go and done what you are trying to do.

Don’t ask people who have no clue what you’re doing or trying as that won’t help you. Start reading books on people who have done what you are trying to do, watch YouTube videos on them and learn more about them.

The positive changes you want to make must become very serious, and the only way to get to where you want to go is with help from people who have already been there. Don’t let anybody put doubt in your mind about your dream and your vision for your life.

If the current environment you are in is not helping you in making your positive changes, then that needs to be another change you must make.
