Your vision must be 100% clear. If you don’t have a vision that you are absolutely certain about then putting a plan in place is a waste of time. You need to know exactly where you want to go so you can set out a strategy that will take you there. A plan can change, a strategy can change, but a vision must cannot.
Highly effective leaders grow their vision and gain clarity of their vision from the passion they have and the purpose they are pursuing. If your vision grows from the same place as a highly effective leader, then you are well on your way to becoming a highly effective leader too.
You will live a life that many people dream about. You will live a life that a lot of people throughout the world will never experience. You will live a life that is rewarding and fulfilling to you.
1. Your Purpose
To find your purpose can be very difficult as it needs you to put in a lot of effort, discipline, seeking, taking risks, pushing yourself and not giving up on yourself. To find your purpose, you must follow your passion.
If you deliberately work on yourself every day, keep growing, follow your passion and don’t give up then you will eventually find your purpose. You cannot wait for this to happen, and you can’t hope that it happens accidentally, and that somehow your purpose will come to you.

If you want to increase your influence with others, and then leverage your influence then your purpose needs to be found.
To constantly grow and develop yourself, you will need to put in a lot of effort and a lot of work, but I’m telling you now, it is well worth it. If you put in this effort and continuous hard work, then you will eventually become excellent and you will become a highly effective leader.
What I hope you don’t do is what most people throughout the world do, and that is settle for average or even below average. The reason most people settle is because it doesn’t require any effort or hard work to be average, it is very easy.
These people will leave this earth without knowing what their true purpose or mission in life was. They will leave this earth without knowing who they truly were. Is that what you want?
2. Your Roadmap
You are on a journey, and for you to reach the destination (vision) you will need a road map. If you don’t know your vision or your destination then a road map will be no good to you, so you won’t need one.
Before you finalise your road map, you need to have your vision and your purpose aligned with each other. If you know your destination (vision) but you don’t know how to get there (purpose), then your road map will be useless.
The point of me explaining that vision and purpose is like having a destination and road map is because so many people will not have a destination (vision). They will not have put the time and effort in to visualise the life they want to create for themselves.
They do not believe that it is their responsibility to define what their vision is, so they don’t need a purpose. By not accepting this responsibility they believe it is up to somebody else to create their vision for them.
That is the decision these people have made, they have decided that they don’t need to live, they will just drift through life. Like they have been put on this earth for the wrong reasons, and they don’t know why they’re here.
3. Making Things Happen
They are waiting for something good to happen to them, they are not making something good happen. By waiting and waiting for things to happen, they are eventually going to die without anything good happening to them, unless they put the effort and work in required to make something good happen.
They don’t have a vision, they don’t have a purpose, so they are not on a journey through life.
The purpose I had for writing my articles and books was to help you find your purpose in life. If you feel that you already know your life purpose, or you’re nearly there in discovering it, then my articles and books will help you leverage your purpose.
I consider my own life purpose as the reason that I was born in 1982. How do you see your life purpose? Not enough people throughout the world know why they are on this earth and have no idea how to discover the reason.
But with my articles and books, I want to help as many people as possible just like you discover the reason, they are on planet earth, and how they can help others find that reason too.
By defining your vision and refining it along your journey, you will be living the life you want and have created, instead of drifting through the life that has been handed to you.
Your purpose is very important, but for you to inspire others to want to follow you then you need to increase your influence with them. When you can increase your influence with others, you can add value to them.
4. Increase Your Influence
By knowing how to increase your influence and add value to people, they will follow you because they want to.
The vision you have created will help you to understand the amount of learning you will need along your journey, so you will know how to increase your influence with people along the way.
The strength of your character, the competencies you have and will learn, and the values you live by is how you will influence the right people. The right people will be determined from your vision. Everything in everyone’s life is determined by how we increase our influence with other people.
As we have discussed, the vision you create will enable you to understand who you are right now, and who you need to grow into. We used the analogy of road map earlier; your vision will become your personal growth road map and will help you to become the person you need to become.

By developing your character on your personal growth journey, this is how you are going to keep moving forward.
By knowing who you need to grow into, the strength of your character is how you are going to constantly grow into who you need to become. By developing your competencies, you are only going to make YOUR BEST YOU better.
When your vision has been created, you will need to keep working on it and developing it and the only way to do that is through…action.
If you don’t take action on your vision, then it will just be a dream you once had. Too many people don’t have a vision, and they can’t be bothered to create one, don’t let that be you.
When you’re at the bottom of the stairs in your house, how do you get to the top? By climbing them. When you have a vision for your life, how do you make your vision a reality? By taking action on it.

All the best,
Hi Tom,
I would agree knowing your purpose can be difficult, and leveraging your passions is a good way to help you define your purpose, I had never really correlated the two before. Making things happen definitely means to take action because no one will do it for you. You make good a point about about having that vision or your destination and your purpose to draw out a roadmap.
Thanks,
Rich
