Sacrifice Is Very Difficult

Letting go of things is very, very difficult and will leave a scar on you from time to time. But, if it’s necessary to get to where you want to go, then you must let go.

Where you are now in your life, and to get to where you want to be, you are going to have to make sacrifices. I say that like making sacrifices is easy, but it is not, it is very difficult. Sacrificing things in your life is very difficult, and sacrificing people is even more difficult.

1. Your Sacrifices

But you are going to have to sacrifice your relationships with people in your life if they are holding you back. If they are not helping you to get to where you want to be in your life, then those relationship sacrifices are necessary.

The reason is so you can make time to build new relationships with people who do help you to get to where you want to be.

There are people in the world who make sacrifices for the sake of others, so that they will benefit before themselves. Sometimes the person making the sacrifice will not see any benefit at all, and I like to call these people special.

They see the sacrifice they made as the benefit, rather than the benefit the people they made the sacrifice for sees. Basically, they have paid the price of sacrifice for something bigger than themselves, which is the best reason that any person can make a sacrifice for.

So, why do we find making a sacrifice so difficult? The reason is because when you make the sacrifice, you feel it immediately. The thing you have given up has gone, and you won’t feel the benefit from the sacrifice for days, months or even years.

2. Your Vision

The thing you have sacrificed or have given up has gone from your life because it was not helping you progress towards the vision you have created for yourself. However, just making the sacrifice will not help you turn your vision into a reality.

When you make the sacrifices, you will be in a better place to make the right decisions to keep you moving toward your vision and ultimately your transformation. The sacrifice may be a thing, or it could be a person, but when you have removed it, you will be thinking a lot more clearly.

When you are thinking more clearly, you will start to make new resources available to yourself that you must deliberately use to move towards the future you have created for yourself.

You must take action on using these new resources to progress your vision. The way to do that is to ask yourself the following questions and answer them with solid actions:

  • What obstacles are in my way?
  • How do I remove those obstacles?
  • What further sacrifices do I need to make?
  • What am I not doing that I need to start doing?
  • How can I increase my efforts in the right places?
  • How can I be my best?
  • How much time do I need?
  • How can I use my time wisely?
  • How much money do I need?
  • How can I use my money wisely?

If we discuss working on ourselves, whether that is reading more books, listening to personal growth audios, watching personal growth videos, getting fit, writing our thoughts down, and generally improving ourselves every day.

3. Don’t Make Excuses

How often do you hear people say things like, “I don’t have enough time for that.” “I am far too busy to be doing that.” “You need money for that, and I don’t have enough.”? To me, these are not good reasons to not work on yourself, they are merely excuses.

When people say things like this, it means they are not willing to pay the price (sacrifice) what they need to get what they want.

The people who make these excuses do not have any problem with time, they have more than enough time to work on themselves every day. Their problem is what they value. They probably value watching television, going out drinking with friends, or lounging on their couch after a day at work.

They do not value working on themselves, even if it’s just for ten minutes every day to make progress towards their vision.

People who say things like “I’m far too busy for that” really mean, I am going out after work later and I don’t want anything getting in the way of that. Our values are what is important here.

When it comes to things that people know they should be doing, need to do, or want to do, there is one principle. People who don’t want to make anything happen will always find an excuse. People who do want to make something happen will always find a way to make it happen.

People who say things like, “I don’t have enough money for personal development.” I always reply to them with “What does money have to do with improving yourself?” These people know that you can carry out personal development initiatives without money.

For example, there are lots of free personal development websites, books you can download for free, personal development videos on YouTube.

4. Developing Yourself

To develop ourselves, we need to make sacrifices. If we want to continuously improve ourselves every day, then we need to continue making those and more sacrifices.

If we want to grow even more and in new directions, then we will need to make even more sacrifices. This is just how it is; we need to pay the price for what we want.

To pay the price for what we want, then we need to have the discipline to keep paying that price. Thought is the foundation of decision making, and you need to have the right thoughts to make the right decisions to make the right sacrifices.

Do you have the discipline to make the right decisions and the right sacrifices? To do this you must improve your competency and develop your character.

These are the things you need to do if you want to get from where you are now to where you want to be and make your vision happen. To get what you want in your life you must work on yourself and make the right sacrifices.

When you have discovered your vision and the life you want to create, your values will change. There are things that you value now that will reduce as you keep progressing towards your vision.

Other values will eventually replace them that will help you to keep moving forward in your life. The things that are holding you back will fall away, and the things that push you forward will take their place.

The most successful people in the world that you see, you never understand what they had to go through, the tough times, and the sacrifices they made to get to where they are. All you see are the successes they’ve had.

  1. Hi Tom,

Thank you for your words that reflect the
truth that growth and transformation come with a cost.

I appreciate how you’ve not only highlighted the emotional side of letting go, but also provided such practical reflection points to help navigate the process with intention.

This reminded me to look again at what (and who) I might still be holding onto that no longer aligns with my vision.

Funilly enough, this theme was going through my head all morning, before reading your message.

It is regarding people who do not understand my strong personal vision I have with my new business. They seem puzzled why I am no longer available for long chats as often as they would wish.

Well, this is MY soul’s development and NY life path, and I’m not here to keep pleasing others at the cost of my own growth. Because, eventually, this would not serve them either!

I felt considerable relief and assurance I am doing the right thing after reading your post. Thank you for the encouragement and powerful content.

    1. Hi Lucie,

I am so grateful that my article resonated with you, and I appreciate your detailed comment sharing your own experiences.

I hope people can read my article and your comment too and learn just as much from your experiences as they can from mine.

It is great that your vision for your new business is coming together and you are willing to let go of the people who do not align with that vision. It is very difficult to do, but it is absolutely necessary.

Keep working on yourself every day, enhancing and growing your vision and helping the people who follow you.

      All the best,

      Tom

  2. Thank you so much for the encouragement! There are things I know needs to be let go of so I can achieve my goals… sometimes it’s just the little boost of hearing it from somewhere else we need, ya know? Thank you so much!! *off to conquer the world*
