Start With The End In Mind

There is hope in every situation in life, we just need to ensure that we don’t grow hopeless and lose what we have created.

When you have created a vision for your future and you have hope for that future, how willing are you to a pay a price for that future? The price being making sacrifices that turn your vision into reality.

1. Hope For Your Vision

If you don’t have hope for the future vision you have created, then you are not likely to make the sacrifices required to turn your vision into reality. When you can see your vision and it is clear, your hope in that future develops. That is why you need to “start with the end in mind.”

For example, when I could see a future for myself in writing leadership and personal growth books, leadership coaching & mentoring, leadership speaking and leadership teaching, all for a living, I was filled with lots of hope.

This hope gave me the reasons to make the sacrifices needed to turn my vision into reality. Your vision will give you hope, and the hope will give you the reasons to make the sacrifices required to turn your vision into a reality.

If you do not make the sacrifices required to turn your vision into a reality, then your vision will remain just a vision or a dream. Hope is something you feel, and you need to move from feeling into action.

But hope will give you that push to take action and make the sacrifices required, e.g., investing your money or your time into certain tasks or activities that leads towards your vision becoming more and more real.

People who have hope are in the best position to create a vision and a future for themselves that they want. They do not just accept their current situation or reality the way it is and do nothing about it.

People who have no hope have just accepted how things are in their lives right now and cannot see a better future for themselves. They are in no position to create a better future for themselves.

If you don’t have hope for an improved future for yourself then not a lot will change right now. To make changes you need to make the best decisions for yourself. If you don’t make the best decisions for yourself, then others will make those decisions for you.

2. Decisions

They will not necessarily be the best decisions for you, but instead the best decisions for them. Do you want to live that way? If you don’t have hope for yourself and for your future, then society will influence how you live instead of you.

When you have hope for a better future for yourself then you will believe in yourself and believe that your circumstances will improve. When you create the vision that you want for yourself and for your future, then you will see where you are now, and you will be able to see where you want to go.

When you have hope you want things to get better for you, not worse. When you have hope you will inspire yourself to take the necessary actions and make the right sacrifices to move towards your vision.

Hope will motivate you to look within yourself and challenge yourself. When you look within, you are accepting responsibility for your vision.

You are accepting that there is only you who can turn your vision into a reality. So, ask yourself, “How can I turn my vision into a reality?” “When do I need to turn my vision into a reality?” “What actions do I need to take to turn my vision into a reality?”

Having the strong belief in your vision and in yourself is what hope provides you. When you believe strongly in something, you will make the sacrifices and take the actions necessary to turn that something (your vision) into a reality.

The people who do not have a vision and don’t believe in themselves or believe that they can make things happen to improve their lives, they are just drifting through life. They have no hope, and they won’t make any sacrifices to improve things.

3. Your Responsibility

The responsibility for making things happen is not accepted by them, and they blame others for how their life is at the minute.

They say to themselves, “Who is going to make things better for me?” “I wish someone would make things better for me.” “I wonder if anything is ever going to get better or change.” Is this how you want to live?

If you don’t believe in your vision and in yourself strongly enough, then you will not take the actions or make the sacrifices necessary to make things happen and turn your vision into a reality. Is this what you want?

Without hope, there is no way you can move towards your vision and the opportunities that lie ahead for you. It doesn’t matter who you are now, who you want to become, where you are, or where you want to go, if you don’t have hope for your future then you cannot move forward.

Before you started reading this article, you may have already removed many obstacles in your life and been through some tough times. But, if you want to move towards your vision and make it a reality, then you need to have hope for your vision and those opportunities that await you.

To see your vision and the opportunities for the future more clearly, then you must give up something right now that is holding you back.

You must make the sacrifices necessary now so you can see something that pulls you forward. That is what sacrifice is, giving up something so you can go get something else.

4. Action

Having the vision for a greater future requires more. Your vision requires action, and you need to take that action.

When you take the action necessary, you must realise that things will not happen overnight. Some things will happen in days, but other things may not happen for weeks, months or even years, so it requires patience from you.

How many people do you know who believe in you? Having people believe in you is so important if you are struggling to believe in yourself or have hope for your future.

I know quite a few people who believe in me, and in the past that has been so powerful to me because it helped me change how I thought about myself.

I started to believe in myself and have hope for my future, and when this happened, I could make decisions that I couldn’t make at first because I didn’t have that belief in myself.

If you are in the situation now where you don’t have that hope or belief in yourself, then you must make the decision to take that belief in you from somebody who does believe in you. When you take that belief from somebody else, it will help you to develop your own self-belief.

No matter what your current circumstances are, you have the freedom to decide how you react and respond to the circumstance. There is only you who can change it for the better.

You are reading this article right now, so that is a great step towards changing how you feel about yourself, and your own self-belief. Are you feeling hopeful or hopeless right now? Talk to a family member or a friend and ask them how they feel about you.

I have heard many people say, “Nobody believes in me.” Or “I don’t have anybody to talk to.” I see that as an excuse to not develop their own self-belief and hope and stay in a hopeless situation.

It is a decision to make on whether you want to be hopeful or hopeless, it is up to you. I hope you make the right one.

  1. Love the insight to start with the end in mind. This allows us to plan effectively as we proceed toward our target. Of course, there will be course corrections along the way but it is essential to be clear on our purpose.

Also, responsibility is vital to being the captain of our ship and directing our lives with purpose and passion. Otherwise, we play the victim and disempower ourselves.

So many great insights here. Thank you, Tom.

  2. Hi Tom, your blog post is truly inspiring and a powerful reminder of the importance of hope and vision in our lives. I appreciate how it emphasizes that hope is not just a feeling but a catalyst for action. The idea that we must start with a clear vision of our future to develop the necessary hope and make the sacrifices required resonates with my personal experience (as a holistic therapist) deeply. It’s a call to take responsibility for our lives, to believe in ourselves, and to surround ourselves with people who believe in us.

This message that you have conveyed in your post is a great guide for anyone feeling stuck or hopeless, encouraging them to take actionable steps towards their dreams. Thank you for sharing such an uplifting and motivational article!
